Improvisation and Nature in Art

Embrace the unknown and learn to follow your intuition in experimentation and play. Discover the freedom that comes from creating art without a fixed destination. Learn about responding to your natural surroundings through the act of painting. Flow with the rhythms of the high desert and delve into the creative spirit of New Mexico.

 You will be guided with prompts and shown how to utilize watercolor and inks in exercises by local artist Cynthia Young.

Cynthia has taught all levels and almost all art forms over the years and will assist you in your art journey with care and expertise.

Art experience is not a prerequisite and anyone with an inquisitive mind is welcome. All materials will be provided. Join us and learn how enjoyable painting can be.

Cynthia has a BFA in painting and is currently living and creating in Santa Fe. She has experience painting every subject matter with a focus on landscapes and portraits.

Class at Mottainai: Elemental Explorations

This class is about learning balance and harmony when creating abstract work. Taking inspiration from elements in nature, we will be learning about the foundations of art.
With a minimized palette, we are going to focus on things such as focal point, pattern, line work, contrast and composition. We will utilize painting with watercolors and inks as well as drawing with pastel and paint pens. Learn new ways of approaching your art. As well as tools to create more dynamic work. By becoming familiar with the elements of great art, we will be more equipped to make compelling paintings.

Scaling Up: Large Abstract Painting w/ Cynthia Young 2 Day Workshop

Join established artist Cynthia Young for a dynamic and immersive two-day abstract painting workshop! In this hands-on class, you will explore various techniques and exercises designed to unlock your creative potential and prepare you for creating a bold, larger-than-life abstract masterpiece on a 30 x 30" canvas.

Cynthia will guide you through exciting and fun exercises that focus on color, composition, texture, and form, helping you build confidence and a deeper understanding of abstract expression. You’ll explore different tools, methods, and approaches to mark-making, layering, and building depth, allowing you to express your emotions and ideas freely through art.

This workshop is designed for all skill levels, and it’s all about exploring creativity in a supportive and playful environment. By the end of the two days, you'll walk away with a personal, large-scale abstract painting that you created, as well as new skills and techniques to continue your artistic journey.

Come ready to dive into the world of abstract art and leave with an energizing experience and a canvas you’ll be proud to display!

  • 30” canvas and watercolor paper included - a short list of additional materials will be provided before the start of class

  • *For this workshop Muses is accepting deposits of 50% with the remaining balance due after 30 days of initial deposit. All accounts must be paid in full by June 1, 2025 Please select 50% Deposit to reserve your spot in class. We regret that deposits are not refundable.
